NOVA Mentor

We needed really long, but finaly ….
… we think the result is a sensation!

The Mentor M allready passed the certification.

class 1-2 including speedsystem
weight range Mentor M 95-110kg

That are the facts. The following report of Hannes which is already online in
paragliding forum describes the flying behavior of the Mentor

Mentor report from Hannes Papesh (orginal report)

I had the chance to fly the last Mentor proto today: Mario Eder worked on it during the last 2 weeks.
He adjusted the brakes and slightly the trim. Mario was reporting about the extreme maneuvers. In
comparison to the Mamboo the Mentor offers more reserves. It looks like the final version now.

In the morning we compared the Mentor's performance against our reference Mamboo. The hands off

speed of the Mentor was slightly higher, the glide in trim significantly better. The Mentor has as well
the higher max. speed. At Mamboo's max. speed the performance of the Mentor is clear better.
During the last month we worked mainly on a higher performance efficiency rate of the Mentor
concept. Today the perf. difference to the Mamboo seemed to be higher as the prognosis: The new
shapes, the better finish and the much cleaner stabilo showed it's effect.

In the afternoon I had a short flight on the wing: here my personal impressions:
I flew an IBEX 17 (with 103kg) just before, so my "handling feeling scale" was on ultrahigh.
:-)

Immediately after takeoff you recognize the slightly higher trim speed compared to my reference
feeling. It leaves the impression that you can feel the performance. Compared to the Mamboo the lines
are shorter and the aspect ratio is a little less. So the wing seems more compact, it turns more direct,
more agile. I can't remember a similar good handling on a medium size wing: the handling on the
Tattoo is maybe more aggressive but less balanced.
When pulling the brake one side in hands off speed, it takes a tick, after the wing pulls you aside
impressively. If you let it dive a little it gets quite fast. After release it rockets you up again: whow: a
spectacular dynamic for a pilot like me.

When pulling the opposite brake as well, the handling gets much more gentle. I tried to fly down the
steep ski pist (ld 1:3) just closed to the ground, doing touch and go: flying with deep brakes is easy,
the wing very accurate to control. You can very well dose the curve radius and dive angle.

After that I could do some dynamic soaring on the middle station: very funny! Steep turns, impressive
altitude regains. Flat, tight turns in lift: easy: if you need a tighter turn: just pull the brake more: there is
enough kick in every situation. The right brake seems to be even better as the left one: Mario did leave
a small difference to compare the stabilo brake effect.

The valley wind was around 15km/h: I tried some accelerated flying, proved the pitch up tendency
against gusts. After landing on the point, I was absolutely convinced of that wing. It seems, that we
finally got it! Sorry that it took so long, but believe me, friends: it's not easy to improve the Mamboo!

What remains to do:
We will do some more comparisons to accurately measure the l/d difference to the Mamboo. We will
as well compare against the RA (could get a tight match, let's see).
:-)
We are looking foreward to get your impression of the Mentor!

The serial production of the Mentor is already running. You can order from now
on.
